The Zurich Classic of New Orleans, taking place April 25-28 at TPC Louisiana, has always been more than just a golf tournament. It embodies teamwork, resilience and giving back.

Since 2005, the tournament has generated more than $645 million in economic activity for the New Orleans community. Together with the Fore!Kids Foundation, the Classic has raised more than $30 million for charitable organizations, supporting 200,000 children in need annually.

This year, Zurich is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its title sponsorship of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Over the past 20 years, Zurich has continually raised the bar on how to make a positive impact on and off the course.

As part of that commitment, Zurich is continually growing its on-course recycling and conservation efforts. Guests at this year’s tournament will see a few new notable highlights.

  • Discarded oyster shells will be collected to help protect Louisiana’s shoreline from coastal erosion.
  • Leftover concessions will be donated to local food recovery programs. Last year, the Zurich Classic donated 500 pounds of food.
  • Glass will be recycled and repurposed to sand and gravel for disaster relief, coastal restoration or eco-construction.
  • Building materials will stay out of landfills and be repurposed. For example, mesh will be recycled and given a new life as landscape edging.

Zurich also is continuing to track the tournament’s waste diversion and carbon footprint to set sustainability goals and reduction targets for future tournaments. And it will conduct a tournament week sustainability audit to understand where the Zurich Classic measures in relation to the Golf Environment Organization Certification Framework.

“At Zurich, we help companies build resilience and take positive action for tomorrow. We hope our efforts at the Zurich Classic inspire others to contribute to a more sustainable future, too,” said Alban Laloum, Head of Customer, Distribution and Marketing at Zurich North America.
