Zurich North America Named to 2022 Military Times Best for Vets list

At a Veterans Day townhall celebration held this week at Zurich North America’s Schaumburg, Illinois headquarters, guest speaker Bill Davidson highlighted the difficulties veterans face navigating the transition from military to corporate life. Davidson, a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and now Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer at IAA, Inc. (a global digital marketplace that facilitates the marketing and sale of total-loss, damaged and low-value vehicles) cited differences in interviewing, onboarding, structure and culture as just a few of the adjustment challenges.

Zurich strives to ease those transitional challenges by providing a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for veterans. The company’s efforts have contributed to its consistent rankings on lists of best employers for veterans, including the recently announced Military Times 2022 Best for Vets: Employers list. Zurich has made the list for several years running and ranks 34^th out of 175 organizations on the 2022 list. The Military Times ranking is based on evaluations of companies’ recruitment and employment practices, as well as retention and support programs that help transitioning service members excel in their post-military careers.

At the Veterans Day event, Davidson also shared how military training can translate to corporate success in areas such as studying the landscape, knowing your organization’s systems, developing and practicing standard operating procedures, and building and developing cohesive teams. Davidson highlighted how veterans can apply their unique perspectives to improve business operations and have a positive impact in the workplace.

Beyond the Military Times honor, Zurich’s commitment to veterans has been recognized in many sectors. Recently, David Shluger, Vice President of Cyber Risk Engineering at Zurich North America, was awarded a Patriot Award for providing the flexibility a team member needed to fulfill his duties with the Air National Guard.
