Mike Hughes is Head of Participant Accident Business Development for Zurich’s Accident and Health group. In this role, he is responsible for growing Zurich’s Participant Accident book across the United States, providing Accident solutions for school groups including public, private and charter schools in the preschool, K-12 and college markets; youth and amateur sports groups; camps; religious organizations; volunteer groups and special events. Mike is also involved in product development related to Participant Accident coverages.

External appointments

Mike previously held the position of senior underwriter of Accident products at Zurich. Prior to joining Zurich in 2008, he worked in a similar role for another major carrier. Since starting his career in Accident insurance, Mike has been involved in underwriting various types of Accident coverages as well as marketing, product development, broker and client relationship management, risk management and various other areas of the business.

Educational background

Mike received a bachelor of arts in Marketing and Logistics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
